08.01.07I have struggled to come up with some witty expose on everything that is wrong. Usually I am stewing over something or another but this week I am not. There is plenty to bitch about. Fifteen things just today are worth bitching about. But, all of the ranting about stuff is getting boring. It is all over message boards and email blasts. I don't have to cram it down your throat.
Yeah, sh*t be changing. Sometimes it is like you are in the middle of a room and people are all around the walls randomly throwing plates at your head. Our guys are hanging in there by listening to the customer. They are trying to offer as much value to the shopping experience as possible. You folks that live in a town with a great indie record store don't have the jarring reality that many American music fans face - FYE or Circuit City? Target or Best Buy? Or the very worse, only a Walmart. Terrible selections, crappy customer service and zero buying experience. Many physical goods buyers can only buy online.
In the indie store world, many owners have stuck with the principle that events and great service mean everything to those who want to buy their products physically. They get the good advice but, they also get Spoon live at Waterloo, John Butler Trio live at Twist and Shout, Brandi Carlslile live at Easy Street, Rocco de Luca live at Music Millennium, Marc Broussard live at Vintage Vinyl, Queensryche live at Looney Tunes and DOZENS of other events big and small. And hey, that is just one three week period!! Pretty impressive if you ask me.
Just thinking about that today made me happy and acted as a helmet for all of those plates.
