This Is The Life

Classic-era Rolling Stones. An amplified, rocking version of '60s protest folk. The soulful passion of the Violent Femmes and the Waterboys... You're gonna wanna hear this.

At just 17-years-old, this former small town girl turned British folk sensation doesn't merely sing about what's to be expected from someone her age- love, lust and romance.

A rock band that defies a fill-in-the-blank image.

Yeah, she loves Pete Doherty... But if you're looking for a train wreck you'll want that other Amy.

The name is pure P.J. Harvey, the record is in a class all its own.

Eleven years later and the drugs still work.

A musical love letter from Southern California, That Lucky Old Sun shimmers with sun dappled choruses and arrangements that swell and swirl as if carried by the Pacific tides.

Downtempo delights from the biggest names in chill including Lemon Jelly, A Man Called Adam, Bent and Sebastian Tellier take you on a journey through years of the coolest chilled out sounds.

Introducing Trevor Menear
Shangri-La Music

The son of Richard and Linda Thompson delivers a happy record... Well, maybe not. Well, close enough.

On his third album, Pass It Around, Pro-Surfer turned Brohemian Rhapsodizer, Donavon Frankenreiter decided to be a wave rather than an island.

The Brazilian Girls third record looks for a good time all the time... And succeeds.

It takes some people their whole lives to decide what they want to do. Trevor Menear figured it out by the time he was two. Feel stupid yet?

With his new album, Orange Blossoms, JJ Grey takes another giant step forward -- moving effortlessly from gospel-tent fervor to Southern-fried rockers to deeply emotional soul - all anchored by lyrics that are at once vivid and personal, political and universal.

Known as the most authentic and well respected compilation for true lovers of trance, Trance Nation is the only brand that can still command the loyalty and respect of its legions of fans a decade on.

The Stills kick their game up a notch. Hearing this only once will not be an option.

The Will Ferrel-ish, Rilo Kiley bassist makes a bunch of joyful noises.

Break-ups, make-ups, and the musical joys of gardening... No, this isn't a Van Morrison record.

The former Dirtie Blonde singer achieves success by acting naturally.

On one hand, The Toadies are just a raw, commanding rock band. On they other they are something nebulous, but strangely distinct-and, shall we say incorrect.

The former Blue Merle frontman positions himself as the Thom York of Nu-Grass.

Fujiya & Miyagi don't really sound like anything. Instead, they sound like everything condensed into perfectly arranged three-minute chunks.

It's often said that the true test of an artist's worth arrives on their second album. By that measure, Natalie Walker has succeeded wildly.

This psychedelic barnburner is a lot better than you think. Dig?

After ten years as the lead singer and songwriter for iconic Canadian rock band Our Lady Peace, Raine Maida's first solo album, The Hunter's Lullaby, has finally arrived.

Q: What do you call a collective cry of joy from math punks the world over?

A: Punkgasm!

Yell Fire is widely considered to be Spearhead's career high, but it looks like All Rebel Rockers might change all that.

You like big guitars and even bigger choruses, right?

Lowell George may be gone but his spirit lives on this killer tribute.

The Coalition of Independent Music Stores (CIMS) is a group of some of the best independent music stores in America. CIMS was founded in 1995; its current membership is made up of 29 accounts that handle 47 stores in 21 states. Many of the accounts have been recognized by the music industry and their local communities for their outstanding dedication to customer service and developing artist support.

Each member is bound by its shared love of music, a reputation for great selection and customer service in its community, yet each CIMS account is as unique as the market it represents. Most importantly, CIMS member stores continually seek to challenge the jaded, color-by-numbers advertising and marketing of other retailers.
