Over the past months, several of our CIMS members have celebrated important anniversaries. Next week marks another one for Strictly Discs out of Madison Wisconsin. March 9th, 2022 will mark their 33 1/3 anniversary! Hitting special anniversary celebrations is always important in our business, but marking those milestones in the midst of the past couple of years feels like just that much more of an achievement.

Indy music store Strictly Discs in Madison, Wisconsin will celebrate 33 and 1/3 revolutions of the sun on March 9, 2022. Originally launched in the ascendancy of the CD era, Strictly Discs has expanded both its physical footprint and original focus, notably gaining fame for an enviable vinyl selection. With an offsite warehouse containing over 150K records, frequent customers know to check the Strictly Discs Instagram page every Thursday night for a sneak peek at Friday’s incoming weekly smorgasbord. What started as a one-man operation now has 15 employees, has shipped items to almost every country and ably navigated a thorny retail landscape in which it continues to prosper. How did this happen?

Ron Roloff, owner and founder, left a pharmaceutical sales career in Chicago and launched Strictly Discs on the west side of Madison in 1988. Currently, he serves as the store’s “Road Dog” and will travel 500 miles at the drop of a hat to look at possible collections. Buying trips have taken him down both the Atlantic and Pacific coasts and all points between. Records have been bought and too outlandish to fabricate tales have been exchanged.

Angie Roloff, co-owner, makes Strictly Discs a true mom and pop shop. Serving as webmistress, store sage and extinguisher of fires, she is the steady hand that makes HQ hum.

Thanks to the Monroe Street area in particular and Madison in general, Strictly Discs has cultivated a loyal clientele allowing the store to weather streaming services, a global pandemic and conventional wisdom asserting that physical music media would die on the vine. By both capitalizing on a resurgence in vinyl and a long record of customer service, Strictly Discs continues to thrive.

The shop will celebrate by thanking its customers with a storewide sale Wednesday, March 9th.
