I am pleased to announce that 2015 marks the twentieth anniversary of the formation of The Coalition of Independent Music Stores. It was a great moment all those years ago when Don Van Cleave and the owners of some of the best record stores in the country sat around a room, not knowing one another, and decided to join together and form a collective voice for the indie sector. We all knew there was strength in unity and the notion of linking these stand-out, important indie stores had the potential to make substantial contributions and changes to the industry. We were right. In celebration of that accomplishment, we have created a special CIMS logo for the year, which you can see above. Our convention, which will focus on the anniversary, will be held September 15-18th in New Orleans,LA. We are lining up events, so if you have a top-notch band you want us to see or if you want to buy us dinner or throw down some swag, contact myself or Andrea Paschal: firstname.lastname@example.org. Also, we are producing a commemorative, hard-bound book about CIMS and the stores that will be unveiled at the convention. We have limited advertising support space available so if you are interested, contact Liz Boger: email@example.com. I hope some of you can make it to New Orleans; we are currently building an invite list, which will include several former staff members and store owners. It will be quite a party.
