Shame- Songs of Praise (Dead Oceans)

The South London post-punk/rock act’s debut album Songs of Praise is full of driving guitar, heavy bass, and snarling vocals in step with the best British rock and post-punk acts of the last 40 years. The opening salvo of “Dust on Trial”, “Concrete”, and “One Rizla” are a killer intro to the band. I have great affection for the particularly British swagger of bands like Gang of Four, The Verve, and Joy Division, and this band definitely carries that style forward on this album, but with an added touch of grime from bands like Metz and Pissed Jeans.
